- Visit one of the finest restored houses in the country. Built in the late 17th century for ‘Young’ Sir John Brownlow with gardens that cover 35 acres, together with a magnificent 1,000 acre landscaped park. Featured in the BBC’s TV adaptation of Pride and Prejudice starring Colin Firth. Excellent National Trust coffee shop.
- Belton Garden Centre is built in the former formal walled gardens of Belton House. Belton House was built in the mid 1600s and the walled garden area was established in the 1800s. Unusually the 16ft walls which surround the garden centre are hollow. They were built like this to provide a cavity heating system, to supply warmth to the plants grown on the wall sides. The heating was supplied by boiler houses along the length of the wall. Plants originally grown here, mostly unseen in the United Kingdom, included apricots, peaches and melons, making the owners of Belton House the envy of others for their fine fruit displays. It is reported that during the hey-day of the House over 25 gardeners were employed on the site of Belton Garden Centre.

- National Trust- Home of Issac Newton – Without Isaac Newton this small manor would be just another Lincolnshire farmhouse – but in 1665 the plague sent him back from university to this place where he was born. For 18 months Newton worked in solitude, experimenting obsessively, laying foundations for the science of today. Barn 6 Water Lane, NG33 5PD – 01476 860338
- Harlaxton Manor was built in the 1830s for Gregory Gregory, a wealthy Nottinghamshire businessman, to replace the original Elizabethan Manor House in Harlaxton Village. Having travelled throughout England and Europe seeking inspiration, ideas and indeed artefacts for this huge house, Gregory employed Anthony Salvin as architect and Harlaxton Manor must be regarded as Salvin’s masterpiece. Built in Ancaster stone, it is an exuberant merging of Gothic, Jacobethan and Baroque styles creating an unforgettable and dramatic impact. NG31 1AG – 01476 403000
- National Trust- Walking up the paupers’ path towards The Workhouse it is easy to imagine how the Victorian poor might have felt as they sought refuge here. This austere building, the most complete workhouse in existence, was built in 1824 as a place of last resort for the destitute. Its architecture was influenced by prison design and its harsh regime became a blueprint for workhouses throughout the country.
- This rural workhouse was designed to house around 160 inmates. They lived and worked in a strictly segregated environment with virtually no contact between the old and infirm, able-bodied men and women and children. Fiskerton Rd Southwell NG25 0PR – 01636 812886
Newark Museum – National Civil War Centre
- Discover how the people of Newark survived three sieges by dodging cannon fire, hammering flat family silver to make coins, only for plague to ravage the town. Country Walks:
- Information available to email – The villages of Marston and Hougham are surrounded by agricultural land and have the River Witham running through them. The villages offer three wonderful circular walks of 2.5 miles, 5 miles and 7 miles, to cater for all abilities, starting from the Marston Village Hall car park and using the country’s bridal-ways. Grantham Soaked in History
Birth place of Margaret Thatcher. Visit the Angel & Royal Hotel (Great Food) is one of the oldest Inns in England. Some say that The Old Angel has more historical interest than many of our stately homes in the United Kingdom. Widely regarded and fondly known as the oldest surviving English Inn, the main facade of the building that stands today was built approximately 600 years ago. King John held court there in 1213.
Historical Market Town of Newark
Regular guided tours take place in the castle. In the summer, brass band concerts take place on Sunday afternoons in the castle grounds and river trips take place daily. Newark is well known for antique shops and The Show Ground featuring an annual County Show and regular antique fair. A huge range of various shops which include antique and lots of quaint cafes and restaurants.
Belvoir Castle
Great place to visit, with breathtaking views across the Vale of Belvoir. Inside the castle are many notable collections, from the military treasures in the guardroom to the stunning staterooms. In contrast to the grandeur of the State Rooms, the Old Kitchen and Bakery will fuel your imagination of ‘below the stairs’ life in 1825. The Peacock Inn, food comes well recommended. A great day out for any car or motorcycle enthusiast, the ‘Normous Newark Autojumble offers a vast array of parts, restoration services and related products for a variety of vehicles on ten separate Sundays throughout the year.
Each ‘Normous Newark Autojumble sees Newark Showground filled with hundreds of inside and outside trade plots, as well as a classic car and bike display area. On-site catering units are available as well as an inside cafeteria.
Run by a friendly and experienced team of event staff from Mortons Media, each ‘Normous Newark Autojumble attracts a large number of visitors from across the UK in search of the great finds and bargains on offer.

The Newark Arms, Armour, Medal & Militaria Fair
Northern Arms Fairs was established in 1978 and has for many years been the leading organisers of antique arms, medals & militaria collectors’ fairs in the North of England and further afield, by providing venues for collectors & dealers to share their passion & knowledge of all things military.
The shows feature a vast choice of many militaria dealers which attend our fairs on a regular basis and have been for many years, so plenty of experience & knowledge is available on the various types of collectables to be seen, whether your passion is guns, swords, edged weapons, medals, antique armour, badges, bayonets, books, ephemera or uniforms, there is sure to be a dealer who shares your passion on your chosen era of military history.
Collectors and the public alike are encouraged to bring items to sell or to trade against their next ‘must have’ historical item.

Treat your garden this April with a day out at the Newark Garden Show…
Famed for bringing plantsmen and nurseries from across the UK all together in one place, the Newark Garden Show will be filled with crafts, gardening tools, food, flowers and everything home and garden related.
Not only can visitors pick up the latest flowers and select the perfect seeds direct from the growers, but they can learn more about their garden from the show’s friendly and knowledgeable exhibitors.

Great British Land Rover Show
The Great British Land Rover Show will be returning once again to Newark Showground this June, bringing the Land Rover community together to speak to traders, enjoy the off-road course and show off their vehicles.
With Land Rover specialists of all types exhibiting, visitors will be able to stock up on parts and accessories at great show-only prices, discuss projects with experts in modifications and restorations, find out more about overland travel adventure and more.
We also have a large Auto Jumble, VIP Land Rover parking, and the All Wheel Drive Club on site managing the Off-Road Course.

Unity Fest is a unique and different annual weekend festival for lesbian, bi, and transgender women.

Whilst at Unity Fest we want to help you feel freedom and want you to be your truly fabulous self in the company of like minded women. Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre
Home of the Lancaster Bomber! Get ready for a great day out!
Step back in time to a WW2 Bomber Command airfield and experience some of the greatest planes in history. The Centre is a living and breathing history experience with the sights and sounds of a wartime airfield and a running Lancaster and Mosquito.

- The Lincolnshire Aviation Heritage Centre is a family run museum and was set up over 20 years ago. It is now widely seen as a living memorial to the 55,500 men of Bomber Command who lost their lives during WW2. It holds one of the rarest aircraft, an Avro Lancaster Bomber, in its collection along with many wartime vehicles including a Ford WOT1 Crew Bus, the only one of its kind known in existence.

Roam Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown’s finest Parkland at Burghley
The Deer Park that you see today at Burghley was the vision of Lancelot ‘Capability’ Brown who worked for the 9th Earl of Exeter in the 18th century to remodel the more formal 17th century parkland plan of his ancestors.
Today, sweeping vistas through mature trees roll down to the spires of Stamford and with the backdrop of the House create the perfect canvas for open air concerts, wedding receptions, fairs and food markets, car rallies, sporting enthusiasts or maybe just a quiet stroll from our neighbouring town of Stamford. The Deer Park is open daily for you to explore and enjoy with parking available at no charge.

Burghley is home to awe-inspiring works of art and priceless treasures
Externally, the impressive architecture of the House remains largely as created by the Lord Treasurer. Within, the dramatic alterations carried out by the 5th Earl in the latter part of the 17th century transformed the layout into that of a baroque European palace. Many of the great craftsmen of the day worked for years, producing unrivalled examples of woodcarving, plasterwork, gilding and decorative painting. The prolific purchases of fine art made by the 5th Earl and his Countess, and many of their successors, fill the rooms with a dazzling display. The quality and variety of the Collection is truly outstanding.

Discover the dramatic changes the ‘Shakespeare of landscape design’ made at Burghley in the 18th century. Located on the ground floor of The Brewhouse.
Our Collections: The collection of Fine Art held within Burghley House is extensive and varied, and includes many highly important objects. The collection of Italian Old Master paintings is one of the finest in private hands. The collections of both Oriental and European ceramics are world famous and of great interest to scholars. Fine English and Continental furniture, 17th century Objects of Vertu, English portrait miniatures and European Works of Art all feature strongly.

Guildhall Arts Centre:
The Guildhall Arts Centre is a community-centred venue that aims to offer its customers innovative, stimulating and quality arts’ experiences. Housed in what was Grantham’s town hall, jail and sessions hall (see Guildhall History) the Arts Centre is part of Cultural Services provided by South Kesteven District Council (SKDC) along with Stamford Arts Centre and The Bourne Corn Exchange.
Our venue is predominantly a receiving theatre where we bring in professional touring shows and also hire the venue out to professional shows. In addition, Grantham has a thriving amateur scene and several groups from the area hire the venue for their productions. We have an annual Christmas pantomime, which for 18 years was produced in association with director Douglas Gorin and now will be in partnership with Polka Dot Theatre Company.
Alongside the shows, the Arts Centre is also a hub for workshops and community activities. We offer several workshops for a range of ages and our rooms are in constant use by businesses, organisations and individuals for meetings, workshops, fairs, conferences and parties (see Weddings & Room Hire).

Belton House Events: National Trust:
Generations of the Brownlow family made their mark on Belton, commissioning the finest designers and craftsmen of their age to shape the estate we see today. The house and gardens showcase cutting edge design and innovation, from 17th century sash windows to a cast iron-framed orangery in the Italian Garden, made possible thanks to the Industrial Revolution. The interiors are equally impressive, with a dazzling collection of silver, porcelain, and a world-renowned library.
Today, Belton welcomes new generations to explore the ancient deer park, picnic in the pleasure grounds, or burn off energy in the National Trust’s largest outdoor adventure playground.

Belton is an exceptional example of Restoration architecture with a world-renowned library and collections of art, silver, and ceramics.
Garden
Belton’s formal gardens are of Dutch and Italian design, with cast-iron orangery and fountain. Pleasure gardens offer relaxing lakeside walks.
